Reality television is not something I watch daily. The only one I watch is Keeping Up with the Kardashians mostly due to clips of the show being easily available and posted on Instagram. Reality television’s purpose is to show an everyday real life of people but the life that the Kardashians live is anything but normal and the endeavors they choose are not even a possibility for a regular person. Reality television is presented as a source of entertainment and allows us average people to vicariously live through these characters in the show and in their world where you can think about what decisions you would make in a situation that would never occur in your own life. I also feel like “reality television” is also a misrepresented title as most of these shows are extremely scripted. I am going to continue watching more reality television and understand the culture that so many people are obsessed with.
A question I want to ask thus far is how much of reality television do you think is actually real?
